Supporting SportIn the CommunitySince Sportscover was first established we have recognised the importance of supporting grass roots sport. Sport is a central part of most communities and provides a number of social and personal benefits. So we feel that it is right for us to provide help in a number of ways. Here are just some of the ways in which we are involved in giving back to sport. Sponsorship Grants - Sportscover Sponsorship Fund
2011 Sportscover Sponsorship Fund GrantsSportscover is proud to announce that the 2011 Sportscover Sponsorship Fund is now accepting applications. The fund will award 20 grants of $750 USD to grassroots sporting clubs and associations throughout the world. There will be 3 rounds of grants in 2011
View Eligibility Criteria Application Form Previous Beneficiaries Round Two Recipients Northern Districts Cycling Club Inc Have been in existence for over 20 years with their main aim being to encourage and promote cycle racing for young and old. They intend to use the grant to fund Safety equipment - signage, high-visibility vests, flashing car lights, walkie-talkies, etc. Perranporth Surf Lifesaving Club Their goal is to be a vibrant, voluntary organisation dedicated to the development of surf lifesaving knowledge, skills and experiences; offering a safe, enjoyable environment that provides opportunities and promotes a healthy, fulfilling lifestyle for all. They will use the grant to purchase training paddle boards for our youth 7-13 yrs membership - referred to as the "Nipper" section of the club. Shamrock Diving Club Is a relatively new club which has only been in existence for 4 years. The club’s objective is to offer an inclusive environment to promote participation in the sport of diving and encourage high performance when appropriate. The grant will be used to purchase some additional gym equipment for specific on land diving training as well as pool hire costs. Boamclubbee Soccer Was established in 1980 to assist children and adults of all ages to participate in soccer, and has grown steadily with 23 teams registered in one year. The grant will be used to help disadvantaged members of the community access the club. Cambridge Park Cranebrook Junior Rugby League Football Club Promotes a healthy and active lifestyle among community members of all ages and backgrounds through participation in recreational sporting activity. The Club is run by a group of dedicated volunteers who offer training and organise regular competitive events, enabling members to interact socially and learn new skills in a safe and instructive environment. The grant will be used to purchase first aid equipment that ensures the wellbeing of any injured player. Caboolture Softball Club Inc. Goal is to provide junior and senior members with access to training and game time in the sport of softball. The funds will be used to purchase two shade shelters for use in the upcoming summer season. Nederlandse Touch Rugby Bond Have only been in existence of 18 months and have a goal of increased awareness, interest and participation in the sport of Touch Rugby in the Netherlands. They have already achieved a lot with their highlight being an overall World Ranking of 15th (out of 23 nations) in the recent 2011 Touch Rugby World Cup in Edinburgh. The funding will help secure training facilities for the next 12 months. Round One Recipients Jarvis Brook Sports Club of Crowborough, East Sussex, UK, has been providing football sporting facilities for over 70 years. The sports club currently has over two hundred members and continues to expand year on year. Each age group has had success over the years and this continues to be the case to this day. They will use the grant to help purchase new lighting for their training area. This will also help erect a perimeter fence to the main pitch and install shelters to this pitch. North Beach Soccer Club of Perth, Australia, has been in existence for over 30 years, they are an amateur club run by volunteers striving to become the predominant family orientated club in the region. They have a big focus on junior soccer and Female soccer. The grant will be used to purchase new uniforms for their recently promoted ladies squad to help towards their success. Access Dinghy Foundation Inc of Nowra NSW, Australia, promotes sailing for everyone, regardless of disability, financial status and age. They provide suitable equipment and means so that people of all abilities and all ages can interact and be included in mainstream sailing events throughout the world. A proud achievement was developing equipment and boat to enable the first ventilated quadriplegic to sail solo anywhere in the world in history. The grant will be used to help develop and coach individuals and teams. Hampton Village Football Club of Hanworth Middlesex, UK, have been in existence for 34 years and has many dedicated members who have played for the club for over 20 years. The Club will use the grant to purchase new uniforms along and update the medical equipment. Limerick Hockey Club of Limerick, Ireland, has been operating for 11 years; the club provides a safe, fun and courteous environment for children to learn the game, develop hockey skills, make friends, get fit and compete. Their aim is to be the best club in Munster. The grant will provide protective equipment for their junior players along with assisting in the purchase of special facemasks for the players defending penalty corners. Sports Boules Singapore of Toa Payoh, Singapore has been in existence for 22 years. The club strives to be the leading body for the petanque and sport boules games in Singapore. They have achieved some success over the years obtaining 3 bronze medals in the SEA Games, 1 gold medal in the Asian championship. The grant will help promote the sport to the community and assist in the development of players for international events. Jubilee Golf Club of Wangaratta, Australia, has been running for 75 years. The club would like to increase the interest of golf in young people by encouraging them to play the game. The greatest moment for the club was when the community came together and helped re build the clubhouse after the bushfires. The grant will help the club develop junior players to succeed in the game of golf. General SponsorshipThroughout the years we have been involved with many sporting groups such as those shown below. Team Sportscover - CyclingSportscover has been involved in cycling for many years, running a professional team in Australia and sponsoring several national teams such as the United Kingdom and New Zealand, in the Commonwealth Bank Cycle Classic road race between 1994 and 1998. Team members have included riders such as English champions John Tanner (British Olympian) and Chris Lillywhite, 1998 Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist Australian Jay Sweet and the Hong Kong star and mountain climbing specialist Kam-po Wong. Sportscover Cycle Racing Team was re launched in 2007 and is a mix of vast experience and emerging talent. In spite of their impressive palmares the team are very ambitious and enthusiastic, targeting the Premier calendar series of events and the National Road Championships in the UK and Europe. Team Sportscover's current line-up includes Ashley Brown, Gavin Evans, Hamish Batchelor, Dieter Droger, Kevin Dawson and defending North East road race champion, Collin Humphrey.
Team Sportscover are preparing for their 4th season and with continuous improvement, expectations are high for 2010. With over 60 race victories, their success goes beyond road racing with the team competing in time trials, criteriums, track and mountain bike races around the world, which has been reflected in the interest expressed in our team by the media.
The 2009 season saw the start of our Youth Development Programme, with four Yorkshire Juniors competing in a raft of events across the United Kingdom. In only their first season racing, a number of victories and podium places were scored along the way, ensuring the quality that proceeds our team name is carried through to the junior ranks. Our senior riders have had their most successful season to date with numerous victories and podium placings in stage races, on the road, time trial and mountain bike events in the UK, Spain, Ireland, France, Canada and Switzerland. This success has not gone un-noticed, with regular coverage on Eurosport, in the cycling and national press has reflected. Each season our team features in 4-6 page articles covering all aspects of the team from kit, races and training routs to team dynamics and training methods. We owe our exposure to the experienced riders and the enthusiasm brought to the team by the younger members who are hungry for race wins and their time on the podium. Welsh Hockey Union and Sarah Thomas
Sportscover Europe is proud to sponsor the Welsh Hockey Union who have had great success in recent times, as has been demonstrated in the selection of Sarah Thomas to the Great Britain squad competing at the Beijing Olympics. Sarah, the only female Welsh representative in the GB squad, has come through the ranks from starting at the tender age of 12 and has represented Wales at U16 to senior level. Sarah currently plays her club hockey for Rotterdam in the Netherlands. With Sportscover's support as her main sponsor Sarah has been able to maintain her pre Olympic training at Bisham Abbey with the rest of the GB squad, competing in the various warm up matches and tours ready for the biggest summer of her life.
