Team Sportscover have just won an Eight Man Relay in the world’s toughest endurance challenge - Race Across America 2011. With a clear two hours and 55 minute lead the team narrowly missed out on creating a new world record for the relay team. Furthermore, as the fastest to cross America, the team were presented with the Jim Kennedy Trophy for their efforts. Race Across America 2011 saw the team of eight pedal 3,000 miles non-stop west to east coast from Oceanside, California to Maryland to raise funds for Help For Heroes.

Touching 12 states, climbing over 170,000 feet and experiencing temperatures ranging from minus five degrees in the Colorado Mountains to 41 degrees centigrade in the Arizona and Kansas deserts, the team averaged speeds of 23 miles per hour as they attempted to break the current world record of five days, nine hours and three minutes, finishing minutes short of setting a new record at five days, nine hours and 14 minutes.

Regarded as one of the pinnacles of sporting accomplishment and seen globally as the highest rung of the endurance sports ladder, the race, now in its 30th year, is so staggering that merely to finish is, for most, the accomplishment of a lifetime.

Commenting on the team’s achievements, Team Sportscover managing director said:

“This has been a combination of sheer pain, utter exhaustion whilst at the same time has been completely exhilarating. We’ve battled through the blistering heat of the deserts, high winds, sand storms, rain, flooding, snow and sub zero temperatures during the nights and of course a few tumbles and extra miles in the wrong direction. That said, it has been the ultimate adventure and the people who have made this trip will be friends for life, a fantastic effort by all to raise much needed funds for such a worthy cause, what a team!”
